The Elite Ladies Golf League (ELGL), originally founded as the Ebony Ladies Golf League in 1997 in Youngstown, Ohio, began with just 14 charter members who were new to the game. Their vision was to build a space where women, especially minority women, could experience the joy, growth, and community that golf uniquely offers. Under the leadership of founder Brunilda Turner, the league rapidly expanded—first to Columbus, Ohio in 1998, and then eventually to Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Texas.

The Texas Chapter of ELGL was officially formed in 2003, following the relocation of three members from the Columbus Chapter to the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Those three founding members—Kusana Turner and Linda Prince-Johnson — launched a membership drive that led to the formation of a vibrant Texas chapter with 15 charter members. Some were first-time golfers, many of whom enrolled in a “Player's Performance Program” at Cowboys Golf Club to build their skills.

Since its founding, the Texas Chapter has grown into one of the most active and engaged branches of ELGL, hosting annual tournaments, field days, clinics, and membership drives throughout the DFW metroplex. Members of the Texas Chapter regularly volunteer with youth golf programs, including the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program of Dallas, and participate in events that foster mentorship, networking, and golf education.

The chapter's leadership, spearheaded by Chairperson Kusana Turner, has continued to uphold the league’s mission to provide opportunities for women to grow personally and professionally through the game of golf. The Texas Chapter proudly represents ELGL at national events, has hosted the Midwest Golf Association’s annual convention, and has been instrumental in growing the league’s presence and impact in the southern region.

In 2025, as Chairperson Kusana Turner prepares to relocate to Ohio, leadership of the Texas Chapter is transitioning to Keema Echols. A longtime supporter of women's golf and ELGL, Keema brings both vision and structure to her new role. She is committed to continuing the chapter’s legacy of excellence while enhancing operations, increasing member engagement, and ensuring that ELGL remains one of the most welcoming and well-organized women’s golf leagues in the region. Kusana will remain involved through the transition period to support continuity and preserve the strong foundation she helped build.

Today, the Elite Ladies Golf League – Texas Chapter continues to thrive as a community of women who love the game of golf and the sisterhood that comes with it.  With a focus on community, personal growth, and elevating the presence of Black women in golf, ELGL is committed to providing meaningful experiences on and off the course throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
